Katalalixar National Reserve

(Reads: 53, since 26-Ene-2011)

This is located northeast of Caleta Tortel, which is north of Villa O’Higgins. You can only reach it by boat, it covers a surface area of 624 500 hectares and was created in 1983. Due to the location and environmental conditions of the park it has neither infrastructure nor personnel.

The most common vegetable species you will find are evergreen thickets, coihue, mañío, ñirre, lenga, calafate and tepu.

The fauna inhabiting the reserve know how to deal with the insular conditions that arise and so the most common species are penguins, petrels, ducks, plovers and gulls. The most common land birds are kingfishers, thrushes, chuacos, tordos and cachaña parrots.

With regards to mammals, the common sea lion, the lobo fino (another species), coypus, otters, guiñas (small felines native to Chile) and pudús (Chilean native deer) all inhabit the park.
