Inca de Oro(Reads: 108, since 07-Feb-2011)This is located 100 km northeast of Copiapó and south of Diego de Almagro. It was originally called ‘Cuba’ and was an important mining centre. It is situated in the Llano de Varas, between Carrera Pinto and Diego de Almagro.
It is now a small group of houses where no more than 300 people live but in the past it was one of the most important mining areas. The only remaining buildings are the train station, the square and some houses. It comprised the following mining districts: la Quebrada de Chañaral Alto, Sierra Caballo Muerto along with other copper and gold mines in the area. It is an interesting place given that minerals are still extracted from the area, albeit in a rudimentary fashion and depending on the price of the mineral.
