Yerbas Buenas(Reads: 22, since 12-Jun-2010)Yerbas Buenas was founded on the 22nd of December 1891 and is located 10km from Linares and 63 km from Talca. This historical town is well known for the battle on the 27th of April 1813, known as the "Sorpresa de Yerbas Buenas", when the Patriots sprung a surprise attack on the Spanish forces. It is also home to the famous Chilean poet Max Jara. It seems as if the town - with its colonial architecture, main square, native cuisine, traditional culture and traditions - has been left behind in another time. Places to Visit in Yerbas Buenas: The Historical Neighbourhood (Zona Típica): This part of town has traditional terraced houses and as such it was declared as a heritage site by the Ministry of Education in September 1979. The neighbourhood runs from west to east along Avenida Abate Molina between Avenida España y la calle Alcalde Serafín Gutiérrez. The church here was also declared a historic monument. Yerbas Buenas History Museum (Museo Histórico de Yerbas Buenas): The museum is situated in a small colonial house which has thick adobe walls, clay roof tiles and ceilings made from "coligue" (a native plant of the bamboo subfamily). The museum was founded on 29th of October 1976 and given National Heritage Status on the 22nd of August 1984. The exhibits include manuscripts and documents from the days of Chile's independence as well as artefacts and handmade cooking utensils from the colonial period. There are also exhibits which relate to the settlement of the town.
