Melipeuco

(Reads: 166, since 12-Jun-2010)

Parque Nacional Conguillio
Melipeuco is located 96 km west of Temuco and 30 km from Cunco. The road there is very beautiful and you can enjoy views of Volcano Llaima in all its glory. Along the way there are many parts which are perfect for taking photos. The full 96km of the road were paved in 2006. The first 56km are very windy and there is no hard shoulder, however from Cunco to Melipeuco the road is in very good condition. The entrance to Conguillo National Park where Llaima is located is only 10 minutes away. Melipeuco is set in a landscape of mountainous valleys which have been carved out by nature.

From Cunco the River Allipén (whose tributaries start high up in the Andes) runs alongside the road. Inside the park you can fish in the cold fresh waters of River Truful Truful (and in other rivers nearby) and enjoy the Truful Truful 1 and 2 waterfalls which are found nearby. Undoubtedly, Llaima and the Conguillo National Park are the main attractions in this area and many visitors come to enjoy their stunning beauty.

Access to the park is open all year round. The Temuco- Cunco-Melipeuco- Icalma road gives access to the Icalma Pass into Argentina where there is a border control. The pass is normally open between September and June.
