Llanquihue

Located at the shores of the Llanquihue Lake, it is directly opposite the Osorno Volcano. The name means ‘submerged place’. It is 27 Km. from Puerto Montt, and is in between Puerto Varas (7 Km.) and Frutillar (19 Km.). The population of Llanquihue is 16,337.

The town was founded when German colonizers arrived in the zone and built a pier in order to be able to communicate with other areas around the lake. When visiting the town you can see its own particular architecture relating to the colonizers, also worth seeing is the town square and the Llanquihue Sausage factory.

During the month of January a Folkloric festival takes place next to the lake, and there is also a beer festival or Bierfest in good German tradition. During the month of July you there is a season of theatre shows by the lakeside,
