Rancagua

Located alongisde the Cachapoal River, it is a commercial centre where much of the countries foods are produced. The surrounding region is mostly dedicated to agriculture. In the nearby mountains is the famous copper mine El Teniente.

Rancagua is 87 km from Santiago and posseses 187,324 inhabitants. It was founded in 1743 in territory previously inhabited by the Piunche people, followed by the Incas.

During a visit to the town, you can go to the Heroes Square, the Provincial Goverment of Cachapoal, The Merced Church, The Regional Museum of Rancagua, The House of Culture, and the house of Pilar de Esquina, all declared National Monuments.

You can also make a visit to the El Teniente mine, the second biggest copper find in Chile and the biggest underground mine in the world, which is located in the National Reserve of Río Los Cipreses.
