Where to go in Calama?

Parque El Loa
This park is located at the southern access to the city of Calama, and here you will find examples of the typical architecture of the towns of the interior. Here you will also find the Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico, located in the riverbed.

There is a small-scale model of the church at Chiu Chiu, and also the Torreón Mirador, inspired by the pukarás of the zone.
It is open from Monday to Sunday between 10:00 and 20:30 hrs. Admission is free.

Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico
The Museum is located within the precincts of the Parque Loa, at the southern access to Calama. There are exhibits of the various cultures which existed in the area. There is also an exhibition of handicrafts created out of volcanic rock, cactus, textiles, ceramics and copper.

In the surrounding area you can buy handicrafts typical of the prevailing culture. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 hrs, and from 15:00 to 19:30hrs.

Iglesia Catedral San Juan Bautista
The cathedral is situated in the Plaza 23 de Marzo in the center of Calama. It was remodeled in the year 2000 and has a striking copper roof donated by Codelco (the state copper company).

Parque Manuel Rodriguez
The park is located in Latorre Street facing the municipal building. It has a handicraft center and a tourist information office. City tours and excursions to the towns of the Andean foothills leave from the park.

Paseo Peatonal Rodriguez
A pedestrian precinct with thriving commerce; in the shops the goods are piled up to the roof, an art form in itself.
