This stone structure was built by the Franciscan monk Father Crisógono Sierra Velásquez, from Columbia, who was affectionately known as "The Black Priest" because of his chocolate coloured skin. Playa Loreto This beach is located 4km south of Caldera and is suitable for swimming. Bahía Cisne Bahía Cisne (Swan Bay) is located on the southerly edge of Bahía Inglesa, 28km south of Caldera. It’s a beautiful white beach suitable for swimming and water sports. There are no tourist facilities. The 400m long beach has a gentle incline down to the water. The swell and the winds are of average strength. Puerto Viejo Puerto Viejo is located 69km to the northeast of Copiapó and is suitable for swimming and fishing. Playa Bahía Salado This extensive bay, which is located south of Caldera, has more than a dozen small inlets, beaches, coves and places to fish. The region’s most beautiful beaches, which are known for their warm waters and fine sand, are found here. The bay is more than 2000m long and the average water temperature is 20º C. There are no tourist facilities. Playa Rodillo This beach is located 11km to the north of Caldera and is suitable for swimming and fishing. Playa Ramada This beach is located 11km to the north of Caldera and is suitable for swimming and fishing. It is easy to access, has a gradual incline, fine sand and a pleasant climate. There are no tourist facilities, although there is a plan to improve the services available.
