Located 30 km from Chaitén, there are three thermal baths here, but no equipment. The thermal waters spring from the ground, from the crater of the Michimahuida volcano, at temperatures sometimes reaching 50ºC. Yelcho Lake This is a beautiful, huge lake with emerald-colored waters of glacial origin, located 46 km south of Chaitén. It is surrounded by tall hills with sheltered snowfields on its forested slopes. It is 11,000 hectares in size and is considered one of the most beautiful lakes of Chile. Puerto Cardenas Located on the north bank of the Yelcho Lake, 45 km from Chaitén. There are basic services available here, as well as excursions to nearby country mansions and fishing trips for salmon and trout. Pumalín Park This project was developed by the North American Douglas Thompkins, with the aim of protecting the woodlands of the area. The park covers 320,000 hectares and is protected by the State of Chile. It is open to the public with a center of operations in Caleta Gonzalo, where there are places to stay, campsites, a restaurant and a cafeteria. Santa Bárbara Located 12 km north of Chaitén, this is a beautiful beach suitable for water sports, with fine sand and clear waters. There’s a great view of the Corcovado volcano and the massif of the Vilcún headland. Caleta Gonzalo This cove is located 56 km from Chaitén, reached by Ruta 7. In the summer months ferries from Hornopirén arrive here so you can travel from Puerto Montt to Chaitén. There are cabañas, campsites and places to eat here. The access point to the private Pumalín park is located here.
