Chonchi

Located 187 km from Puerto Montt, 99 km from Ancud and 20 km from Castro. Chonchi was officially founded in 1767, know then as Villa San Carlos de Chonchi, and clings to the slope of a hill, with three terraces, which is why it’s nicknamed the ‘city of three floors’.

The city is characterized by the sale of products typical of the region, amongst them gold liqueur, "enguindado" (alcohol drink) and sweet breads known as rosas chonchinas (Chonchi roses). The Creole Festival of Chonchi takes place in February.

The houses of Chonchi are made from cypress wood and painted in bright colors, making it a beautiful spot.

The Church of San Carlos, located opposite the plaza, is a National Monument and a world heritage site, so you should not miss it.
