Cemetery
The tradition in Chiloé is to bury the dead as near to the church as possible, so in nearly all the towns there the cemeteries are found close by the churches, and are very striking because of the style of construction of the ‘little houses’.

Church of San Carlos de Borromeo de Chonchi
Located in the Plaza of Chonchi, the name of this church comes from its patron saint, San Carlos de Borromeo. The main fiesta of this church takes place on 4 November.

The building of the church was finished in 1859, when it was renovated in the neoclassical style, designed and built in wood using the classic designs of the Escuela Chilota de Arquitectura Religiosa (Chiloé’s School of Religious Architecture).

In 1971 it was declared a National Monument, and in December 2000 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Museum of Traditions
This is a large house dating from the beginnings of the 20th Century, filled with furniture and ornaments from the 1920s, donated by families of Chonchi, which recreate the atmosphere and look of an interior of the beginning of the century. It was opened in 1996 by the Center for Progress and Development of Chonchi.

The museum is located in Chonchi, at 116 calle Centenario, and is open from Monday to Sunday from 09:00 – 13:00 hrs and from 15:00 – 18:30 hrs.
