Tierra Amarilla

This town, set amongst extensive vineyards, is located 16 km from Copiapó. Here small and medium-scale mining are carried on.

Agricultural activity is the production of grapes, which are said to be the best in the country for export.

When you visit, you can see the Hacienda de Jotabeche and the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Loreto.

Hacienda de Jotabeche
Located close to the Pabellón, as the old railway station of Tierra Amarilla is called, and 19 km from Copiapó, this large house belonged to the distinguished writer and journalist José Joaquín Vallejos, who used the pseudonym Jotabeche. The building was declared a National Monument in 1977.

Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Loreto
This church is located in Tierra Amarilla and distinguished by its gothic architecture. The first church was constructed in 1783, but destroyed by fire only a few years later. Its reconstruction was completed in 1904.
