This little town of 15,403 inhabitants stands on the western shore of Lago Llanquihue, facing Volcán Osorno across the lake. Its historical importance derives from the fact that it was the home of the first German colonizers to arrive in Chile.

The cultural highlights are the annual music week, “Las Semanas Musicales de Frutillar”, which since 1968 has provided a festival of classical music with the participation of great symphonic and philharmonic orchestras under the baton of famous conductors, together with chamber orchestras, choirs, jazz groups and operatic soloists of national and international fame.

The special charm of the town lies in the buildings with their style reminiscent of Germany, the beautiful surroundings, lakeside beaches and the brightly colored home gardens.

Worth a visit is the Anfiteatro del Lago, the Reserva Forestal Edmundo Winckler and the Museo Colonial Alemán.
