La Casa de la Oma

(Reads: 1106, since 26-Ene-2004)

“Grandma’s House” is at kilometer 14 on the road out of Frutillar towards Tegualda. The building dates back to 1907, and its age and style recall the colonization period.

Today it is fitted out as a “Hotel Museum” and visitors here can enjoy a family atmosphere where history and tradition are still alive.

Here you will find all the traditional equipment of the farmhouse, machines for churning butter and making sausages, saddles from the first half of the 20th century, furniture of the same period, wind-up gramophones and all the elements which made up the everyday life of the community.

You can make an excursion on horseback or in a traditional cart, to go round the 19th century stables, visit the dairy and see the rearing of calves. At the same time you can observe the fauna of the area: llamas, alpacas, red and fallow deer, parrots and ibis. There are sports facilities for volleyball, tennis, football, ping-pong and mini-golf, as well as a swimming pool.

If you go out into the forests and fields on walks or bicycle rides, you will see the trees which mark the landscape with their presence, robles, laureles and ulmos.
