Food and Drink (0) Transport (0) Free Time (0) Institutions (0) Tourist Services (0) Río Seco is a fishing village not far from Iquique, 95 km south along the coast. It used to be the port for the processing of salt extracted from the Salar Grande, which was then milled and shipped.
In the village you can see the old evaporation tanks, the conveyor belt and the road which led to the mine. At the edge of the village there is a museum containing images and artifacts of the history of the north of Chile and the rise of the salt industry. From Río Seco you can visit other places involved in the business, such as Pabellón de Pica, Puerto Patillos, San Marcos and Guanillos.
