Los Vilos is a resort and port located on the highway, 246 km southeast of La Serena and 224 km north of Santiago. It has a population of 9,422 and you have to pass through if you are journeying towards the coast.

The city dates from the 1830s and was declared a minor port in 1855. An ancient quay and derrick still remain, built in around 1850, when it was an export point for minerals and agricultural produce.

Fishing is the main activity here, from the two small bays, San Pedro and Las Conchas, where seafood and fish are sold.

Los Vilos has two attractive beaches, La Principal and Las Conchas. In addition, you will find a huge selection of seafood and services for tourists, for example you can take boat trips and visit an island called the Isla de los Huevos.

It is an ideal place for children because of its fresh vegetation and lukewarm waters. Los Vilos has large beaches, suitable for swimming, excursions, walks and water sports.
