It is a town that dates back to 1885 and it is located 31 km from Pozo Almonte. It provided entertainment and public services for the saltpetre community. Thanks to the renewed production of saltpetre and iodine this district is undergoing a population growth.

The well known Chemist and Drugstore called Libertad is situated in the town and has been transformed into a museum where they have preserved porcelain medicinal jars and shelves made from Oregon pine and American oak. The town also has a station which was declared a National Monument.

When you are in Huara you can visit:

Tarapacá

It is located 1 350 metres above sea level, a few kilometres from Huara, along the road to Colchane. It is just a small village which is well known because it was named a Typical Area in 1973.

It was once a famous town. Nowadays it practically lies in ruins. Its outstanding features are the Church and bell tower which were declared National Monuments.

The Church called Iglesia de San Lorenzo dates back to the 17th century. It was built with stone and adobe and then improved in 1773 but destroyed by a fire. Only the walls were preserved and it had to be rebuilt.
