Puerto Saavedra

(Number of Articles Reads in Puerto Saavedra: 4.349)

This fishing town, located on the Pacific Ocean 85 km from Temuco, was founded in 1885 and takes its name from its founder, Cornelio Saavedra. It has a population of 14,348 inhabitants.

You can visit the beach at Playa Maule, where the mouth of the Río Imperial was located before the earthquake and tidal wave destroyed it in 1960. It is worth climbing the Cerro Mirador for a panoramic view of the valley.

From Puerto Saavedra you can visit Lago Budi, a resort 3 km to the east, along the Ruta del Mar. Also in the surrounding area is Isla Huapi, which is not strictly speaking an island but a strip of land which separates Lago Budi from the sea.
