Laguna Parrillar National Park

(Reads: 2447, since 26-Ene-2004)

This reserve, 52 km south of Punta Arenas, covers an area of 18,414 hectares and was created in 1977.

The reserve is named after its principal lake, Laguna Parrillar, which has a surface area of 970 km. hectáreas, and is surrounded by vegetation. In winter, the rivers which feed the lake and the lake itself freeze; the ice is especially thick round the edges, up to 30 cm.

There is a trail with seven stopping points where there are clearings suitable for picnics, and for trout fishing in the months of October to March each year.

The vegetation includes species such as lenga, characteristic of the deciduous Magellanic forest. There is a wide variety of birds and mammals.
