How to get to Santiago?(Reads: 1439, since 22-Ene-2004)
By Air:
The Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez Airport is the principal point of entry to Chile and to Santiago, as this is where national and international flights arrive. There are flights from various cities throughout the country, both north and south, and international flights arrive from five continents. The airport is 26 km from Santiago, and you can travel to the city by bus, taxi, minibus or private or hired car. Ruta 68 is the main highway to the capital. To get to the center take Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins; for residential areas use the ring-road, Avenida Américo Vespucio. By Car: There are various routes into Santiago if you are traveling by car: If you are traveling from the north, take Ruta 5 north, which crosses Santiago from north to south. If you are coming from Argentina, you will enter on Ruta 57, the International road which serves Santiago. If you are traveling from the south, you should come by Ruta 5 south, which crosses the city and joins Ruta 5 north. If you are coming from the coast, there are two alternatives; from the section including Quintero, Viña del Mar, Valparaíso and Algarrobo, access to Santiago is by Ruta 68; if you are coming from the section which includes El Tabo and Santo Domingo, you get to the capital by the Autopista del Sol. By Bus: There are daily departures from most of the cities in Chile, both north and south, arriving in Santiago at the various bus terminals: Terminal Los Héroes, Terminal Santiago and Terminal Alameda. Check timetables and select which point of arrival will suit you best. The Terminal Santiago is in Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Nº 3848 and has a station on line 1 of the Metro. Both national and international services arrive here. The Terminal Los Héroes is in Calle Tucapel Jiménez Nº 21 and is just one block away from Los Héroes Metro station. National services and some coming from Argentina arrive here. The Terminal Alameda is in Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Nº 3750 and has direct access to line 1 of the Metro. By Train: The train only arrives at the Estación Central, with a service from Temuco, nine hours traveling time to the south. Inquire at the offices of Ferrocarriles del Estado, or in the Estación C More Articles in Santiago
