How to get about in Santiago?(Reads: 2070, since 22-Ene-2004)![]() MetroThis is a very important method of transport in Santiago, being easy, safe and quick. There are three metro lines:Red Line, east–west crossing the Center Runs the length of Avenida Bernardo O’Higgins, Avenida Providencia and Avenida Apoquindo. Yellow Line from the Center to the southwest Follows the Gran Avenida. Green Line from the Center to the southeast Follows Avenida Vicuña Mackenna. Metro service runs from 06:30 to 22:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 08:30 to 22:30 on Sundays and Public Holidays. The price of a ticket on the Metro varies according to the time of day: from 06:30 - 07:15 hrs, 09:00 - 18:00 hrs. and 19:30 - 22:30 hrs. is off-peak period when the ticket is cheaper. From 07:15 - 09:00 hrs. and 18:00 - 19:30 hrs. are peak periods when the ticket is more expensive. Types of Ticket Boleto Unitario Single ticket for use during peak times. Boleto Unitario Rebajado Single ticket for use during off-peak times. Boleto Metrobus With this ticket you can pay for a journey combining a sector on the metro and a sector by bus at an integral rate which is lower than the combined value of the two separate tickets. This ticket is accompanied by a metal token which is used to pay for the sector by bus. Tarjeta Multivía This is the cheapest way to travel on the metro, offering a reduction of 20 pesos on the applicable tariff at any time, and for every 20 journeys you get one free in your next re-load. You can buy the Multivía card in any ticket office or ticket machine. Boleto para Estudiantes This is the reduced tariff for high school and university students. Primary school children travel free of charge. Both benefits are available only to students carrying the respective Student Pass issued by the Ministerio de Educación de Chile, with a Metro stamp. This tariff is available from Monday through Friday, 06:30 to 22:30 hrs. and Saturday 06:30 to 15:00 hrs. Boleto para el Adulto Mayor Can be used for metro journeys from Monday through Friday, between 09.30 and 17.30 hrs, and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays. Senior Citizens can use their reduced tariff for a maximum of two journeys per day. This benefit is available only to Senior Citizens carrying a Senior Citizen Pass, and who are Chilean citizens. Price of Tickets Boleto Unitario $400 Boleto Unitario Rebajado $310 Metro Bus $590 Tarjeta Multivía $1,000 (one-off price of the card alone) plus whatever amount you want to load into the card.
