Colina(Reads: 1045, since 22-Ene-2004)Colina is located 19 km north of Santiago, and the main economic activity of the town is the poultry farming. Its most characteristic feature is the irregular layout of the Plaza de Armas.
The name Colina has its origin in the Peruvian language and means "partridge". Another version is that the name is derived from an ancient chief named ‘Colinura’, which in the quechua language means ‘Jefe de Bríos’ (Spirited Chief), and this was altered by the Spaniards, giving the locality its present name. From Colina you can visit the Termas de Colina and San Ignacio de Quilicura, a beautiful place that belonged to the Jesuits and has been declared a National Monument. Places to visit in Colina: Termas de Colina These hot springs are located 40 km north of Santiago, 21 km from Colina. They offer a swimming pool and bathtubs with thermal water at temperatures which fluctuate between 25º and 30 º C. The waters are recommended for the treatment of various rheumatic and arthritic conditions, neuralgia, sinusitis, skin disorders and obesity. There are no counter-indications. San Ignacio de Quilicura This beautiful group of buildings dates back to the 18th Century and belonged to the Jesuit order.
