Quillagua

(Reads: 2018, since 30-Jun-2004)

This is an oasis located on the bed of the Loa River. There is a settlement with crops growing here. There is also a church, an old station and a railway bridge, as well as a museum with an exhibition about the archeology of the area.

It is located on the route that used to comprise the Path of the Inca, so it is therefore pre-Hispanic. Pedro de Valdivia visited in 1540. Here you will find the Quillagua Customs House.

Quillagua Customs House
This stands at the border between regions I and II, and works as a point of control of the merchants passing through towards the south, due to the duty-free port status that the I Region holds.
