Mina Fakir Beach This beach is 72 km north of Tocopilla. It is a resort surrounded with beautiful countryside and important morphological conformations, with a wide area of white sand. It is suitable for swimming and is reached by a gravel road. Caleta Punta Arenas This beach is located 39 km north of Tocopilla. Traditional fishermen benefit from its mild climate. It is suitable for fishing and is reached by a gravel road. Caleta Paquita This beach is located 28 km north of Tocopilla. Chacabuco Saltpeter Office This nitrate works was built between 1922 and 1924, on the site of the old Lastenia Nitrate Works. It functioned until 1940. It was declared a National Historical Monument on July 26 1971 with the aim of safeguarding the evidence of what was then the development of the saltpeter industry in Chile. Francisco Puelma Saltpeter Office It used to be called Carmen Alto Nitrate Works and was one of the most important saltpeters of the time, thanks to the amount it could produce. Only the outer walls and the cemetery now remain. In the past, the number of inhabitants reached 4,800, forming a well-organized settlement. They used slabs taken from the crust of the salt flat to make their homes. Quillagua This is an oasis located on the bed of the river Loa. There is a settlement with crops growing here. There is also a church, an old station and a railway bridge, as well as a museum with an exhibition about the archeology of the area. Sloman Reservoir Located on the narrow littoral platform of the coastal mountain range, 120 km from Tocopilla and 186 km north of Antofagasta.
