Jorge Montt Álvarez (1891-1896)(Reads: 334, 02-Jun-2011)He was born in Casablanca in 1846, son of don Antonio Montt and de doña María Álvarez. From the age of 12, he studied in the Naval School. He was the last commander of the National Squadron during the War of the Pacific. He was elected President in 1891 against his will but he was respected for his strong and prudent character which outshone those of his contemporaries. He died in 1922 in the house which his supporters had bought for him.
