Pedro Aguirre Cerda (1938 – 1941)
1939
- Creation ofthe Production Development Corporation (CORFO).
1940
- Demarcation of Chilean Antarctic Territory.
1941
- Río de Janeiro Conference: Chile declares itself neutral in World War II.
- Control of voting is handed to the Air Force.
1939-41
- Technical-Professional Education is promoted.

Juan Antonio Ríos Morales (1942 – 1946)
1943
- Reform of the Fundamental Law of theContraloría General de la República.
- ENDESA is formed (state electricity company).
- Ties with Germany, Italy and Japan are broken.
1944
- Enactment of a law which states that petrol reserves belong to the state.
1945
- The President travels to the USA.

Gabriel González Videla (1946 – 1952)
1948

- The Defence of Democracy law is enacted.
- Captain Arturo Prat Base is opened.
- President Gabriel Gonzáles Videla travels to Antarctica and the O’Higgins Base is opened.
1949
- ENAP is created (state oil company).
- Enactment of an electoral law which gives women full voting rights.
1950
- Huachipato Iron and Steel Plant is opened.
- CAP is formed (steel company).
1952
- Universidad Técnica del Estado (UTE) is opened.
