San Gerónimo de Poconchile Church(Reads: 2568, 26-Ene-2004)This church, located in Poconchile, a village of pre-Inca origin 35 km from Arica, was the first to be constructed in the Corregimiento of Arica. It was founded in 1605 and had to be rebuilt in adobe in the 19th Century, when two wooden bell-towers were added.
It has a park surrounded by a fence with an ornamental coping, and at the back there is a cemetery. Festivals such as San Gerónimo, on October 30, and San José, on March 19, are celebrated in the church.
