Antillanca Volcano(Reads: 248, 10-May-2011)It is located 98 km from the city of Osorno and it is 1 990 km above sea level. Its most outstanding features are the Lenga Beech and Antartic Beech forests and the Raihuén Crater. Its name means ‘jewel of light’ and it is also known as Casablanca Volcano.
Antillanca Volcano’s ski slopes satisfy the needs of every level of skier and are also suitable for those who practise off-piste skiing and snowboarding. It is possible to undertake other activities like mountain biking, fishing, paragliding, canoeing, horseback riding and excursions in and around the area. All of the tenth region`s winter activity revolves around the volcano and you will see the Antillanca Hotel which provides 73 rooms situated right at the foot of the volcano. There is a frequent bus service leaving from Osorno Bus Station every day. To get there you go up the same road which leads to Aguas Calientes (20 km away). Then when you reach the refuge you continue on as far as the crater (the old volcano) where you can get a great view of the Tronador, Puntiagudo and Osorno Volcanoes, Lake Rupanco, and even as far as the Valley of Lake Puyehue. Within the district you can go on trips to Cerro Colorado, which dominates all of the main mountain peaks in the area, its lakes and thousand year old forests. Or you could visit Paradise Lake, where you can observe native vegetation with its hundred year old majestically tall trees like coigües, tepas, oaks, Chilean laurels, maños, Chilean myrtles, ulmos with abundant bushes like quila, chilco, maqui, calafate and giant helechos.
